Senior Manufacturing Engineer- Automation

job summary:

Rapidly growing privately held manufacturing company located in Tucson, AZ is currently is search for a Senior Manufacturing Engineer with a background with controls and automation. Ideal candidate will have 5 years experience in a highly automated manufacturing facility. Sr Manufacturing Automation Engineer should have experience troubleshooting electro-mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems.

responsibilities:

  • Identify equipment failures (unplanned stops), reduce setup and machine adjustments times including PMs (planned stops) and eliminate idling and minor stops/reduced speed

  • Machine design and mechanical design considerations involved with robotics

  • Trouble shoot electro-mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems

  • Use CAD (Autodesk Inventor and/or Solid Works) to create and analyze designs, run simulations and test how a machine is likely to work, interact with connected systems, and generate specifications

  • Working knowledge of various fabrication methods including, machining and welding. Candidate does not need to be proficient in these skills but must be aware of limitations and considerations these processes impose on mechanical design

  • Responsible for the selection and integration of sensors, controllers, and machinery

  • Manage vendors and projects as required to develop and improve automated assembly processes

  • Provide automation design experience in PLC, HMI, Motion Control, Vision Systems, and Robotics.

  • Ensure all mechanical and automation technicians are properly trained and highly skilled in troubleshooting automated assembly equipment

  • Manage and keep designs or upgrade equipment projects on schedule

  • Participate in the design, construction and testing of new or upgraded automated assembly equipment

  • Work with every plant development teams in the design and development of automation equipment for their operations

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5+ years of experience as Automation Engineer in highly automated manufacturing environments

  • B.S. Degree in Mechanical, or Mechatronics related engineering field

  • Proven track record integrating and programming automation systems from multiple brands/vendors

  • Extensive experience working under pressure in multiple manufacturing environments

  • Willingness to participate daily in lean, hands on and "lead by example environment"

  • Familiarity with SPC, PFMEA, DOE, Lean Manufacturing, and Process capability studies

  • strong English verbal and written communication skills

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Advanced degree in Mechanical Automation

  • Spanish and strong organizational and management skills

  • Capable of programming Compact Logix, Keyence Vision, IAI / Yamaha Robots

  • Working knowledge of MP2
