POSITION SUMMARY: The Analysis Engineer is responsible for driving the development, testing, implementation and continuous improvement of analytic techniques and PV plant performance reporting used by Bay4. They will apply these techniques against data from a fleet of PV plants under the operational control of the Bay4 O&M team to provide system owners and asset managers with actionable information regarding plant performance. This person will work closely with Remote Operations Center team to provide guidance and training in methods of remotely detecting equipment malfunctions at PV plants. A strong candidate will also, by virtue of being well versed in the operation and maintenance of PV power systems, collaborate with Engineering in methods to diagnose, troubleshoot and correct malfunctions of PV plant equipment. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of photovoltaic power plants and measurement theory, as well as a strong background in mathematics, computer programming, machine learning and great analytical skills. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are a critical as this role requires collaboration with many individuals and groups both internal and external to Bay4. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: * Act as the product manager for all in-house prepared PV plant performance reporting: * Periodically review standard reporting formats and procedures. * Work with Portfolio Managers and Business Development to modify or implement new reports to meet customer needs. * Provide consultation to Technical Portfolio Managers and PV plant owners with one-off or “deep dive” analysis of PV plant performance. * Support Asset Management operations by supporting validation of PV plant data used in billing offtakers * Create and improve automated tools used in monitoring and reporting PV plant operation: * Create and maintain tools for API connections to Commercial Data Acquisition Systems. * Analyze long term data sets from PV plants to create useful reports for PV plant owners and operators. * Improvement of analytic methods for timely assessment of PV plant performance and identifying underperformance, including techniques for remote analysis and troubleshooting. * Develop and improve methods to validate operational data from PV power plants. * Develop and debug Excel and/or Python based tools for manipulation of PV data. * Design and implement analysis techniques use to understand and predict PV plant performance: * test various assumptions regarding the performance of PV plants, * measure metrics not directly available from operational data, such as relative cost of ownership for various PV components, * validate and/or cross calibrate field sensors including energy meters and irradiance meters, * provide guidance on optimal preventative and corrective maintenance strategies and, * improve forecasting techniques, including defining best practices for using software such as PVsyst and PVlib. * Coordinate with the ROC Manager for the training of ROC personnel for, and execution of, periodic PV plant performance reporting. * Mentor junior staff. * Collaborate with other departments, such as Engineering & Research and Asset Management to leverage existing company data in improvement of existing service offerings as well as development of new offerings. * Participate in industry knowledge sharing on behalf of Bay4, such as developing white papers and marketing material and participating in conferences. * Other miscellaneous duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: * Education and/or Experience* * An BS in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a similar field. Graduate degree is preferred. * 3-5 years of experience in the solar industry or experience working with data from PV plants. * Experience with analysis of large data sets Other Competencies and Requirements * * Understanding of software development processes and best practices. * Competency in the following computer programming languages: Python, VBA, C#. Experience with other languages such as Java is a plus. * Familiarity with database architecture and best practices. * Able to apply statistical calculations, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, and sampling theory as well as algebra, linear equations, and other analytics as required. Able to create, understand and utilize raw data analysis in excel and various internal tools required. * Knowledge of IT systems. Knowledge of both Windows based and Linux based systems also a plus. * Strong skills in Microsoft Office, especially Excel is a requirement. * Good communications skills and the ability to work well with people are essential. Multi-tasking and excellent organizational skills are necessary. *WORKING CONDITIONS: Climate controlled office environment during normal business hours. May be subjected to inclement seasonal weather conditions if position calls for traveling to/from various locations. Hours: Adhere to scheduled work times. Flexibility, additional hours and weekends may be required to meet business needs, including being on call for emergencies if necessary.
