The Market CEO will have oversight of the the Northwest Health Market to include: Northwest Medical Center, Oro Valley Hospital, Northwest Medical Center Sahuarita and Houghton Hospital.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Observe professional ethics in maintaining confidential information acquired concerning the personal, financial, medical or employment status of patients of the Hospitals and their families.

  • Must follow and enforce accepted safety practices for patients and Hospitals.

  • Responsible for overall operations of the acute-care facilities.

  • Work with system management to develop and implement policies and procedures, short- and long-range goals, objectives and plans.

  • Provide leadership to hospital managers, directors and officers that will enroll support, create ownership of goals, and encourage active participation in decisions that impact the Hospitals.

  • Ensure the Hospitals meet necessary regulatory and compliance approvals and quality accreditations in conjunction with the Hospitals’ Chief Nursing Officers.

  • Partner with physicians who use, or will use, the Hospitals; taking a leadership role in the recruiting and retention of physicians.

  • Assist in planning new services that generate additional sources of profitable revenue and identifying capital expenditures.

  • Assist the Hospitals’ CEO’s in developing a strategy for increasing volume by targeting specific physicians on the medical staff as well as assessing needs for new physicians.

  • May monitor the progress of the Hospitals’ CEO’s to assure desired progress in achieving specific goals.

  • Periodically review the Hospitals’ financial position and advise on corrective action if needed.

  • Assist the Hospitals’ CEO’s with strategies for building stronger relationships with the medical staff.

  • Provide suggestions on how to approach difficult problems with individual physicians.

  • Work with individual CEO’s to review performance, strengths and weaknesses and provide counsel on improvement.

  • Share best practices from experiences both internally and externally.

  • Suggest additional training/skills/knowledge that will assist the CEO’s in career growth.

  • Serve as interim CEO as needed in order to assess the needs of the facilities and to allow time to recruit a permanent replacement.

  • Create an environment that will encourage the recruiting and retention of qualified Hospital employees.

  • Manage costs by continually seeking data that will identify opportunities and take action to eliminate non-value costs in conjunction with the Hospitals’ Chief Financial Officers and Chief Nursing Officers.

  • Develop and maintain positive relations with local community as well as the community leaders.

  • Analyze areas in planning, promoting and conducting organization-wide performance improvement activities.

  • Represent the Hospitals at meetings including medical staff, hospital board of director meetings as well as relevant community meetings; participate with leaders in designing and providing patient care and services.

  • Participate in the Hospitals’ monthly operation reviews as well as participating in corporate office meetings as deemed necessary.

  • Maintain an awareness of changes in healthcare matters that could have an impact on the financial success of the Hospitals through continuing education, participation in corporate training and development, and an effective program of personal growth.

  • Responsible for the short and long-term profitability and growth of the market.

  • Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

Education/Experience:

  • A Master’s degree in hospital administration and / or business administration required.

  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience of demonstrated successful leadership in a healthcare facility, which includes but is not limited to: building relationships with board members, physicians, hospital employees, and community; growing hospital revenue to meet budgetary goals and objectives; and meeting necessary regulatory and compliance approvals and quality accreditations.

  • Multi-hospital CEO experience preferred.

  • For profit, short-term acute care hospital experience preferred.
