Legal Intake Coordinator

Alliance Defending Freedom is looking for a highly talented Legal Intake Coordinator to join us in our Scottsdale, AZ office. As the Legal Intake Coordinator, you are a vital part of the U.S. Legal Advocacy team. In this role, you will report to the Legal Intake Manager and are responsible for processing incoming legal inquiries. Such a task requires the ability to discern if a situation falls within our mission and if so, which area. You must also be able to interview a contact to develop as summary, collect relevant documentation, determine the level of assistance needed and finally, either review the matter with our attorneys or decline assistance.

Your Essential Responsibilities:

In this position, you will:

  • Create and maintain electronic database files for Legal Intake contacts

  • Receive inbound and make outbound legal intake calls/emails (i.e request for legal advice/assistance or general legal questions)

  • Respond promptly to all Legal Intake inquiries

  • Perform factual development of legal inquiry

  • Document all communications with potential clients

  • Assess whether a request for assistance is within the scope of requests that an ADF attorney must review

  • If the request is in scope, collect relevant documents

  • Summarize relevant legal facts for attorney review of a legal inquiry

  • Review legal intake matters with attorneys

  • Act as the liaison between legal intake contact and attorney

  • Decline legal advice or assistance if the request is out of scope or as directed by attorney

  • Prepare conflict checks for attorney review

  • Refer matters to Allied Attorneys

Other Responsibilities (Non-Essential):

  • You will be asked to perform related duties or special projects as assigned.

Skills you need to succeed:

  • Extensive experience interacting with the public, especially over the telephone

  • Ability to listen, process what is heard and apply analytical thinking to what approach(es) to take

  • Ability to take control of the conversation to effectively assess the relevant facts

  • Excellent verbal and written skills

  • Process oriented

  • Strong discernment and decision-making skills

  • Ability to re-prioritize tasks with regular interruptions.

  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office and familiarity with electronic databases

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Familiarity with legal terms and basic legal research (preferred but not required)Ability to professionally handle and maintain confidentiality of all communications

  • Ability to remain personally detached and objective, yet empathetic

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, team player

  • Maturity needed to discuss and deal with sensitive topics

  • Thrive in semi-regular fast-paced environment due to occasional urgent matters that require immediate attention

  • Occasional need to work overtime when necessary and approved (rare)

  • Ability to initiate, work, and motivate within a team or independently

  • Strong administrative skills

  • Ability and willingness to learn and apply software applications.

Education and/or experience:

  • High school Diploma

  • Prior work experience

  • Willingness to learn
