Gila River Health Care Phlebotomist, Lead in Sacaton, Arizona
Responsible for daily operational oversight of the Phlebotomy team and basic personnel management. Performs the duties of a phlebotomist on a regular basis, drawing blood samples from patients and supporting laboratory testing. Serves as a liaison between phlebotomy staff, patients, and other departments. Participates in financial and operational monitoring of the department and submits reports to Laboratory Supervisor. Supervises and trains subordinate staff and ensures all procedures are conducted in compliance with established safety standards, policies, and regulations.
Oversees personnel management of the department, including daily staff schedules, paid time-off (PTO) requests, and participates in employee hiring.
Monitors subordinate staff by assigning tasks, providing training, and participating in performance evaluations. Directs staff to perform in compliance with policies and procedures.
Performs regular duties of a phlebotomist, drawing blood samples from patients for medical purposes and ensuring accurate initialing, dating, and noting of times of collection.
Coordinates daily communications with patients, phlebotomy staff, and other departments.
Assists in financial monitoring, including verification of laboratory billings, and operational improvement by participating in quality and safety assurance activities.
Maintains, confirms, and verifies patient information, laboratory logs, reports, and supplies orders for accuracy.
Ensures proper cleaning, calibration, and maintenance of laboratory equipment and disposes of contaminated equipment.
Reports discipline issues, patient or customer complaints, and unsafe conditions to Laboratory Supervisor.
Performs other job-related activities as requested.
High School Diploma or GED required.
Certified Phlebotomy Technician Certificate required.
2 years of phlebotomy work experience in a laboratory environment required.
Current and continuing BLS training and certifications.
Demonstrated ability to relate to diverse cultures and specifically the Gila River Community and/or other Native American cultures and community health services.
