Job Description: Small Commercial Insurance Underwriting Service

Small Commercial Insurance (SCI) leverages superior underwriting expertise and world-renowned claims, account services, and financial strength to offer solutions for small businesses. change. This position is responsible for supporting the underwriting process for our online platforms for multiple lines of business which include but are not limited to: BOP, Commercial Auto, Workers Compensation and Umbrella. This position will be located in Phoenix, Arizona.

Major Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Underwriting service responsibilities includes: endorsement requests, BORs, newline quote letters, renewal processes, auto line rating processes, Work Comp CRIT management, rewrites, cancellations and billing discrepancy resolution.

  • Adherence to underwriting authority, compliance and regulations, business strategies and corporate standards.

  • Daily workload management of our Small Commercial Inventory Management systems and UW Service mailbox to meet Service Level Agreements with underwriters and agents.

  • Build and maintain a result -oriented relationship with the underwriters to drive overall results including profitability, growth and retention.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and understanding of Commercial Property and Casualty insurance principles and practices.

  • Excellent computer skills - Microsoft Office Suite with emphasis on Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.

  • Exceptional understanding of principles and processes for providing excellent customer service. This includes meeting established time and quality standards ensuring customer satisfaction.

  • Capability to work independently and within a team/group environment.

  • Outstanding attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Proven analytical skills including the ability to identify and report problems or errors while working with significant amounts of detailed information.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with internal and external people in a multi-cultural environment.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma, College Credits or Insurance Certifications, preferred

For example being held to a productivity goal of 12 items completed per day, and a quality audit accuracy percentage of 85%. Our unit and individual goals are metric based, so this is good to see in a candidate. These metric based goals usually come from processing roles/data entry, however it’s important to know that this role is not entirely processing/data entry. There is a definite analytical (underwriting) piece where the individual needs to analyze emails/requests and confidently make decisions on how to proceed with that request within predefined guidelines. Basic Microsoft office suite navigation, as well as the ability to navigate in and out of multiple systems daily is a must. Displaying patience and resilience are also helpful as we are a newer group who navigate newer systems, and areas where there may not yet be established workflows. Initial training will be virtual for these folks.
