Applied Materials Supplier Management Lead, Indirect Procurement - (B5) in Phoenix, Arizona

As the Supplier Management Lead, Indirect Procurement within the newly created procurement Center of Excellence at Applied Material, you will be critical to the continuous development of the Global General Procurement (G2P) organization. This role will support the global enterprise through the creation of the indirect supplier management program, which will support Indirect Procurement’s multi-year transformational journey to a best-in-class management of approximately $2.5 billion in indirect spend. Our transformation journey will include empowering process transformation through technology, expanding and enhancing Procurement support services portfolio (including supplier management), and elevating and standardizing Procurement services through program creation and management, sharing of best practices, support, and training.

The successful Supplier Management Lead, Indirect Procurement will draw on a diverse background of skills such as supplier management, process improvement, and business acumen. This person will enjoy contributing to and being a key player in the creation of an Indirect Procurement Center of Excellence.

ABOUT THE JOB:

You will be responsible to design and run a supplier management governance framework, processes, and systems to assess, manage, and measure indirect suppliers strategically and consistently across Applied Materials. Supplier relationship management empowers Applied Materials to get the most value out of their supplier relationships considering all types of value such as quality improvements, total cost of ownership reduction, risk management, revenue improvement, efficiency improvements, supplier collaboration and innovation, supplier diversity, and supplier sustainability. This role will partner closely with strategic sourcing, category management, procurement, and the business to ensure we systematically identify and capture opportunities for improvement in our supply chain. We are seeking a player/coach since we expect this leader will build a program via a matrixed organization initially and will eventually have direct reports as the program matures.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:

  • Create the supplier management framework, to synchronize with our existing strategic sourcing approach, and our category management program which is being rolled out simultaneously.

  • Ensure the program is well designed, efficient, and scalable.

  • Develop strategy, approach and appropriate timing. Keep stakeholders informed of program development

  • Collaborate with internal departments such as risk management teams, finance, legal, operations, IT, indirect global procurement, etc. in order to ensure the best interests of Applied are met

  • Develop supplier related improvement opportunities with the suppliers and internal stakeholders

  • Ensure key suppliers are being managed appropriately. Support sourcing in the establishing the correct supplier review cadence, and train / support sourcing on effective supplier management techniques.

  • Ensure supplier management is done consistently and with high quality through a combination of teaching and doing key supplier management activities.

  • Balance the need to teach best practices vs. doing them (e.g., be more hands on for the most critical supplier relationships, and advise/train others to be self-sufficient)

  • Partner with sourcing and category management team members to evaluate existing supply base and ensure contract compliance with respect to pricing, SLA’s, termination dates etc.

  • Identify areas for process improvement and innovation; investigate problems, find root causes, and develop solutions

  • Guide and support sourcing in holding effective business reviews. Ensure appropriate topics are covered and appropriate mechanism are in place to track opportunities and follow up actions.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • 10+ years of supplier management or related supply chain experience

  • Passion and prior experience implementing /enhancing supplier management programs

  • Prior experience managing supplier relationships and developing supplier strategies

  • Designing business processes to assess, measure and manage suppliers consistently at scale

  • Expert knowledge of the source-to-pay lifecycle

  • Change management. Influences others internally and externally, including senior management

  • Develop KPIs and metrics to manage program performance and provide visibility to internal stakeholders and leadership

  • Ability to evaluate and negotiate contracts and manage supplier service agreements

  • Ability to work independently and closely collaborate with business peers and stakeholders on current and future state objectives

  • Proven self-starter and creative problem solver
