Job Responsibilities

As a Senior Cable and Harness DFx Engineer on our Strategic Technology team, you will use your engineering and manufacturing background, leadership capabilities, research acumen and strategic focus to improve our products readiness for fabrication through all of the developmental phases. Improving the manufacturability and quality of all aspects of cables in Viasat products. Your expertise will be utilized in the development of standards, best practices, and drawing templates. You will also provide manufacturing review expertise for all cable reviews including commercial, aviation, military, and space applications


+ 7+ years of experience in hardware development of electronic products.

+ Strong experience with aircraft and/or spacecraft cable and wiring harness assembly design and manufacturing

+ Strong understanding of documentation practices and standards

+ Strong communication, collaboration skills and ability to influence decisions and strategic direction to the Engineering teams

+ High level of self-initiative and networking abilities

+ Experience in process validation and controls related to cable fabrication and design

+ Background in routing simulation and maximum bundle diameter calculations

+ Working knowledge in materials requirements for space-flight and other harsh end-use environments for cables

+ Extensive und erstanding of workmanship standards IPC/WHMA-A-620 and/or NASA-STD-8739.4

+ Extensive understanding of Design for Manufacturability principles related to cable and wiring harness assembly design

+ Knowledgeable of RF and signal propagation fundamentals

+ Demonstrated collaboration skills in order to influence good mechanical and systems design practices

+ Strategically minded person with ability to keep pace with emerging technology

+ Demonstrated history of working with suppliers to identify manufacturing cost reduction opportunities while improving first past yield and product quality

+ Bachelor's degree or equivalent in an Engineering discipline

+ Ability to travel up to 20% domestic and international

+ Ability to influence through excellent written and verbal communications skills <
