As an integral member of the Life Methods team at Honeywell Aerospace, you will apply interdisciplinary knowledge and experiences from metallurgy, stress analysis, component design and lifing methodologies to gas turbine engines components.
Located at the Honeywell Aerospace engines campus in Phoenix, Arizona, this Aerospace Materials Engineering position will influence design through engineering guidance and technical mentorship related to material behavior, material modeling, and lifing methodology for materials and components applicable to existing and developing propulsion and auxiliary power gas turbine engines. This position reports to a Manager in Materials Engineering, a division of Applied Engineering within the Chief Technology Office.
Primary team lead for data analysis and material modeling of Aluminum, steels, titanium, and nickel super alloys
Analysis of material data from suppliers and other sources for acceptance against Honeywell design standards
Independent analysis, in consultation with other senior engineers, to support lifing evaluations
Structural analysis includes independent modeling, analysis and simulations using ANSYS
Structural Integrity analysis including stress, fracture and fatigue
Contribute to material characterization test plans for a wide range of metal alloys used in engines, APUs, and mechanical systems for Honeywell Aerospace products
Mentor junior analysts in statistical data analysis, material modeling, metallurgical principles, lifing methodology
Provide technical leadership in a project-based, team environment to influence new product development to improve upon existing Honeywell designs
Interact with industry experts to drive solutions to benefit aerospace issues
YOU MUST HAVE
Bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering
7 years hands-on aerospace experience related to data analysis and material modeling, lifing, solid mechanics and fracture mechanics
4 years of experience related to materials characterization and materials testing methods of Aerospace alloys including elevated temperature conditions
Master’s degree in Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering
Strong knowledge of design principles and material considerations for rotating and structural components in gas turbine engines
Strong analytical skills including statistical analysis of material data
Ability to analyze and communicate findings to key stakeholders to influence decision making
Experience with FEA software ANSYS
Excellent communication at all levels with demonstrated ability to collaborate with cross-functional, technical audience including Chief engineers and technology Fellows
Experience in developing life prediction models for parts made from conventional methods as well as additive technology
Validate lifing models with test data and field experience
Individuals who are self-motivated who consistently demonstrate the ability to work with little supervision, who take the initiative to get things done
Ability to consistently make timely decisions even in the face of complexity, balancing systematic analysis with decisiveness
Ability to cope with high demand environment where priorities change frequently, and many jobs are being worked at the same time
Experience mentoring lower level engineers on projects, technology, or process development
Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification
