VMware Senior User Experience Designer - Opportunity for Working Remotely in Phoenix, Arizona
VMware Carbon Black Cloud holds the shadows at bay, shielding businesses from calculated and malicious cyber attacks. Our customers rely on us for detection, prevention, and remediation of security risks, as well as ensuring secure configurations in their environments. The user base we serve ranges from dev-ops teams and IT deskside support to cybersecurity scientists.
We’re looking for a Senior User Experience Designer with stellar IxD and IA skills who is excited by complex design challenges and the opportunity to make user’s lives easier. An eternal student, always on the lookout for new design techniques and ways to improve your craft, or share knowledge to elevate the capabilities of the team.
You’ll join a growing UX team of designers, writers, and researchers who share your passion for bringing great UX to the enterprise space. We learn fast, collaborate enthusiastically, and lay track on the process as we go. You’ll work on cross-functional initiatives with PM & Engineering, and have plenty of opportunities to connect directly with customers and prospects in the security field.
What You’ll Do
Create clear, engaging designs that enable rapid decision-making by security analysts, and admins in IT infrastructure and dev ops
Participate in various forms of user research to understand customer needs and inform product designs
Collaborate with product managers and engineers to understand business priorities and technical feasibility
Explore design options by creating sketches, workflows, wireframes; prototypes for validation during user research and usability testing
Analyze the effectiveness and efficiency of proposed designs
Communicate design alternatives with confidence, and absorb feedback with grace
Socialize design concepts both within the UX team, as well as with PM and Engineering, to ensure platform coherence across multiple concurrent initiatives
Work closely with Product Managers to help identify and prioritize buckets of functionality that can be released together or in phases
Provide guidance to engineers as your designs get built into products
You’re compelled to ask “why”. You need to know your work has a purpose. You’re fascinated by humans and how they make sense of complex data. You’re a seasoned designer who takes the time to understand customers and can tell an engaging story to your teammates when sharing user discoveries. You collaborate cross-functionally and recognize that good ideas can come from anywhere. You are well-informed, strategic when advocating for the user, and committed to delivering a high-quality product experience.
5-7 years experience defining user experiences for complex SaaS applications (not websites)
Excellence in interaction design, information architecture, and data visualization
Ability to apply established styles and leverage existing interaction patterns
Expertise in design facilitation; familiarity with a variety of research techniques
Knowledge of when to seek customer feedback to inform design at crucial stages
Success on both blank-slate initiatives and on projects for established platforms and products
Ability to estimate UX work, assess and mitigate risk, and make tough prioritization calls, coordinating operationally with cross-functional leads
Facility in presenting to and interacting with customers and prospects
Bonus points for experience in at least one project in the security technology space! :)
