Gilbane Safety Director in Phoenix, Arizona

The Safety Director administers the safety program and serves as safety advisor for all job sites in the Region, holding regional management accountable for safety compliance by the project team and all employees and subcontractors working at the sites.

•Serve as professional resource regarding safety issues to project teams throughout the region

•Represent Business Unit management at all local and companywide safety meetings

•Advise Business Unit leadership of project safety issues and recommend corrective actions when needed

•Participate in Performance reviews of project teams and management in regard to safety

•Ensure that all accidents are reported per Gilbane company policy

•Manage Gilbane internal Safety awards in business unit

•Provide development, support and guidance for District and Project Safety Managers under Regional oversight

•Develop and ensure distribution and understanding of Project specific Safety plan for all new projects

•Attend Peer Group meetings as directed by the Corporate Safety Director

•Serve as IIF coach/facilitator at IIF meetings and training

•Develop and maintain safety peer contacts with area professional organizations and contractor peers

•Assist Corporate Legal and Risk Management in accident investigations and accident litigation as requested

•Develop and administer regional safety training plans

•Develop and interpret monthly safety statistical reports to Business Unit management and corporate

•Represent Gilbane in regulatory appeals and settlements

•Conduct risk analysis on projects and advise Operations Managers and PX/PM on recommended safety staffing during fee proposal

•Train and manage activities of Management Candidates (MC) assigned to Safety


•Associate or Certified Safety Professional or BS in Occupational Safety Management

•7+ years of construction safety management experience

•Or equivalent combination of education and experience


•Expert knowledge of construction safety principles, techniques and methods

•Expert knowledge of OSHA laws, regulations and policies

•Capable of identifying known potential exposures and recommending corrective action

•Strong computer skills and familiarity the Microsoft Office suite

•Management, leadership and interpersonal skills

•Strong written and verbal communication skills
