Description

The primary purpose of this position is to provide strategic oversight of all corporate water rights and water supply issues, and provide assistance to worldwide business units in addressing these and other types of water issues, in order to secure sufficient water resources to support operations and protect shareholder value.

  • Direct and assist staff in providing oversight assistance and strategic planning to business units with water supply and water rights issues, to ensure access to water supplies to support operations

  • Manage and assist outside legal counsel working on water rights agreements and settlements in order to minimize legal expense and provide improved security for water supplies for business units, to support operations and protect shareholder value

  • Direct and assist staff in providing expertise in the areas of hydrogeology, water regulations, permitting, agency rule making processes, project budgets and forecasts, and water legislation as a matter of information and in response to inquiries from business units, in order to provide reliable customer assistance in support of operations

  • Direct and assist staff in developing and tracking Key Performance Indicators for water supply and water rights issues, in order to properly define, manage and monitor the availability of water and the leveraging of water assets, to support operations and protect shareholder value

  • Direct and assist staff in securing legal advice related to business unit water issues, in order to provide a coordinated approach and minimize legal expense to support operations

  • Manage financial assurance reporting for corporate water issues, and respond to requests for input on financial and risk management audit issues, in order to support SEC compliance requirements to protect shareholder value

  • Effectively coach and mentor department employees

  • Pro-actively support employee involvement and professional development

  • Counsel employees on performance standards

  • Complete and administer accurate and timely performance reviews

  • Perform other duties as required

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Geology or Hydrogeology or similar technical field or equivalent experience, and eight (8) years of experience in developing and managing water resources for industrial use

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Hydrology or Natural Resources

  • Ten (10) years of experience in managing, regulating or permitting water resources

  • Comprehension of water rights and well permitting requirements

  • Ability to effectively communicate with direct reports and members of leadership

  • Ability to generate and interpret data /water use and supply reporting

  • Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English

  • Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards

  • Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment

  • Position is in busy, non-smoking office located in downtown Phoenix, AZ

  • Location requires mobility in an office environment; each floor is accessible by elevator

  • Must be able to frequently sit, stand, and walk

  • Must be able to frequently lift and carry up to ten (10) pounds

  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required

  • Freeport-McMoRan promotes a drug/alcohol free work environment through the use of mandatory pre-employment drug testing and on-going random drug testing as per applicable State Laws
