The Director Development & Learning is responsible for enabling business growth and a high-performing organizational culture by delivering an outstanding associate experience through world-class professional development capabilities that attract, grow and retain diverse, top talent associates. Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Consult and partner with Anthem business leadership, HR Business partners and Talent Centers of Expertise to:

  • Develop, maintain and manage stakeholder needs and expectations, including Talent Strategy Directors, HR Business Partners and Line of Business Leaders. Serve as the single point of accountability for the intake and governance for learning requests

  • Gather voice of the customer feedback and insights to refine and ensure career development programs and experiences remain relevant and impactful for the business

  • Ensure enterprise career development and accreditation programs and solutions support key talent segments and skill for growth

  • Embed inclusion and diversity practices into professional development programs to increase associate engagement and retention

  • Lead a team of highly-qualified Learning Consultant that are accountable for the end-to-end process of designing, delivering and measuring enterprise-level, development programs and experiences to achieve business growth plans and enable a high-performing culture, including:

  • World class on demand learning experiences and content through our online learning portal, Anthem Learning Network

  • Targeted academy solutions for critical business areas and talent segments

  • Learning journeys aligned to Anthem Culture, career paths, and critical skills

  • College partnerships with discount and scholarship programs

  • Mentoring program for all levels

  • Manage the Enterprise Training Fund of associate training dollars to optimize enterprise spend and ensure alignment with Enterprise priorities and culture

  • Stay current on Talent Development best practices and talent development networks



  • BA/BS; 8+ years of learning and development experience, including 3-5 years focused on enterprise or corporate learning or equivalent

  • 3-5 years of people and management experience

  • Experience in “academy” organizations and/or Fortune 100 companies known for strong HR and/or learning and development practices

  • Experience designing and implementing end-to-end learning strategies in a large, growing, and complex business

  • Specialized expertise in two or more learning & development processes, including but not limited to core leadership development, high potential development, corporate university development, instructional design, or learning/performance consulting

  • Demonstrated success at leveraging contemporary employee development models and technologies

  • Experience assessing, selecting, and managing vendor partners to deliver learning programs
