Microsoft Corporation Cloud Solution Architect - Digital & Application Innovation (CAE) in Phoenix, Arizona

We are looking to hire hands-on cloud engineers to join our diverse, talented, high performance, and rapidly growing Customer Architecture and Engineering (CAE) within the Digital Application and Innovation solution area. The position is deeply technical and highly solution focused with unique opportunities to work on the most challenging and exciting projects within Microsoft , as well as providing an opportunity to drive feedback into core Microsoft products to help improve our platforms .

CAE Engineers are senior individual contributors who operate globally and engage directly with customers. It is a hands-on technical role spanning across design, build, and production with a focus on issue resolution to remove customer production blockers. Candidates are expected to comfortably switch from a whiteboard to the Azure Portal and Visual Studio . This is a truly exciting role that will feature unique and challenging technical problems to solve, with opportunities to connect with and learn from some of the best software engineers in the world.

Responsibilities

A Cloud Solution Architect (CSA) within the Azure Customer Architecture & Engineering team focused on Digital Application & Innovation will be responsible for:

  • Customer success on the Azure platform with a special focus on designing and helping customers build production applications and reduce technical risks and debts

  • Providing a positive impact to the strategic direction of Azure engineering teams

  • Curate and produce high quality guidance for our internal and external communities and customers

  • Mentorship and development of technical delivery personnel within the Customer Success organization

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years’ experience in technology solutions, practice development, architecture, consulting, and/or cloud/infrastructure technologies

  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years’ experience in technology solutions, practice development, architecture, consulting, and/or cloud/infrastructure technologies

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 2+ years’ experience working with Azure as a developer

  • 3+ years’ experience programming in languages such as C#, Java, GO, JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js, Python, Ruby

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a breadth of knowledge across cloud computing domains and experience on Azure, as well as expert level hands-on experience in topics from the application development technical domains below:

Core cloud engineering

  • 3+ years of experience with architectural patterns and anti-patterns for resiliency and geo-availability

  • 2+ years of experience with Infrastructure-as-Code to build, test and deploy infrastructure for application environments

  • Must be strong programmers with software engineering experience and good debugging skills

  • Must be passionate about incubating new ideas, solving problems, and building working systems

  • Must be a self-motivated, proven collaborator, good communicator and have an ability to adapt to new technologies and learn quickly

  • Modelling cloud infrastructure based on application scale and capacity needs, providing data-driven recommendations to optimize application architecture and performance

  • Experience with application migrations and/or modernization for scenarios such as web applications, monoliths, and databases

  • Management, monitoring and operations at-scale, preferably in a cloud environment

  • Identity and access control with experience administering B2B and B2C applications as well as a working knowledge of Azure AD

  • Security and governance with a strong proficiency in defining and modelling security baselines and managing security posture

  • Running microservices and container-based workloads in production.

Application Development

  • Designing distributed and scalable applications on cloud platforms with focus on performance and resiliency, utilizing microservices architectures

  • Application design patterns, and anti-patterns, such as MVC, CQRS, etc.

  • Interacting with and querying databases and/or NoSQL datastores

  • Application monitoring and end to end telemetry

  • Containers for packaging application deployment units and interacting with container-orchestration technologies such as Kubernetes, Open Shift, and/or Cloud Foundry

  • Defining CI/CD pipelines to automate test and release across different application environments using concepts such as Blue/Green and Canary deployments and related technologies (e.g., Jenkins, Spinnaker, Azure for DevOps, Chef, Puppet)

  • Source code management using Git or other source control technologies such as Azure DevOps, GitLab, Atlassian or others

  • Open-source technologies and frameworks

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or related field experience.

  • Certification in one or more of the following technologies preferred: Azure, Containers, Databases, Security, Development, DevOps

Travel

  • This role is based within the US and there may be up to 25-50% travel for this role as CAE Engineers are sometimes expected to work on-site with customers across the globe, with an occasional need to be in Redmond WA to engage directly with the broader CAE team and other engineering teams.

  • CAE Engineers are remote workers that can be based across different Microsoft locations or home offices depending on individual circumstances.
