Planar is currently seeking an AV Project Engineer. The Project Engineer will support the Planar Custom Solutions Group (CSG) in North America. The P.E. will be responsible for producing power flow, signal flow and mechanical drawings and 3D renderings of video walls and other commercial video displays. Works collaboratively with CSG team members as well as field application engineers and regional account managers. Communicates with AV consultants and systems integrators to develop and document designs for Planar video wall solutions. This includes creating pre-sale, post-sale and as-built documentation packages using AutoCAD as well as 3D renderings using such tools as SketchUp, SolidWorks and Revit.

What You'll Do:

  • Learn video wall system design so you can provide guidance and documentation to Planar partners and customers related to power and signal flows

  • Learn video wall mechanical design so you can build 3D models of video walls to assist with the sales, fabrication and installation processes

  • Create documentation packages using AutoCAD, and create 3D renderings using SketchUp, SolidWorks or Revit

  • Develop 3D objects of Planar and third-party LED cabinets and components from 2D CAD files

  • Help the CSG define CAD standards for Planar and help Planar’s field application engineers develop their AutoCAD skills

  • Support the Planar CSG documenting custom solutions, and assist the Planar Pro Services Tech Group documenting standard Planar solutions

  • Review and modify drawings that come from third-parties and from overseas factories to correct and standardize

  • Collaborate with Planar’s LED video wall mounting frame vendors on the design and documentation of LED mounting structures

  • Collaborate with Planar’s suppliers of video wall controllers to understand the capabilities and requirements of each controller model

  • Work with Planar Product Management to stay current on existing product portfolio as well as on new and upcoming products

    What You'll Need:

  • Strong 2D AutoCAD skills and proficiency in at least one 3D modeling program

  • Ability to chase down information that may be hard to find and obtain answers that don’t come quickly when there is time pressure

  • Great attention to detail and consistency

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a small team

    What You'll Need To Bring:

  • Associates degree or equivalent in a technical field

  • Minimum of two years of professional work experience in a technical role using AutoCAD

  • Experience and comfort level with AV systems, IT systems, electrical systems

  • Preferred but not required: CTS™ certification and/or experience working for an AV integrator or consultant

    Other Requirements:

  • Requires occasional travel to Planar offices, factories, installation job-sites and trainings

  • Willingness to participate in occasional video wall installations to learn new products, conduct tests and document solutions

  • Ability to explain highly technical information to a non-technical audience
