Under general direction of the Director of Engineering, the Mold Technician will support mold design efforts, by optimizing processes, tooling reviews and ensure quality standards are incorporated for the following processes, injection, pour and LP molding. Additional responsibilities will include design for manufacturability recommendations reliability analysis as well as providing technical expertise and product knowledge using a variety of technical disciplines. The Mold Technician will also work collaboratively with other members of the Engineering team to ensure that projects are completed in a timely manner.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Monitoring molding parameters such as shrinkage factors, tolerances, runner/gate design and heat profiles to optimize efficiency.

  • Troubleshooting processes to meet quality standards

  • Use strong analytical and system focus to create and improve design processes and procedures.

  • Studies specifications, engineering blueprints, tool orders, and shop data and confers with engineering and shop personnel to resolve design problems related to material characteristics, dimensional tolerances, service requirements, manufacturing procedures, and cost.

  • Fixture BOM development

  • Presents tool design modifications for required engineering changes and to improve tool life or performance.

  • Review designs that are aligned with assembly and manufacturing capabilities; perform Design-for-Manufacturing reviews

  • Work with Manufacturing Engineering to develop assembly, process control and quality workmanship procedures

  • Perform product verification and validations according to the defined design inputs and product specifications

  • Write reports, specifications, correspondence, and procedures

  • Ensure products comply with and are certified to applicable specifications and regulatory standards

  • Perform other tasks as assigned by manager

Job Requirements

  • 3+ years of Mold Technician experience

  • Associates degree or technical school preferred

  • Clear understanding and knowledge of injection molding. Not limited to, but including multi cavity, hot and cold runner, 3 plate, slide action, unscrewing, insert, and two shot.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications

  • SolidWorks, 3D CAD modeling preferred

  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 and AS 9100 structure and requirements

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with staff at all levels in the organization

  • Understanding of commodities including cable harnesses, CNC milling/lathe, PCBA, box-builds, and electronic components preferred

  • Excellent problem solving, data analysis, deductive reasoning and critical thinking skills

  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds

  • Strong manual dexterity

  • Willing to travel 25%
