Midwestern University Financial Analyst - AZ - Student Financial Services in Glendale, Arizona



The Financial Analyst performs detailed financial analyses and support with a broad scope of activities related to the University requiring experienced, professional knowledge and application of accounting and financial principles. This position is a member of the Student Financial Services team. This individual will create a wide range of detailed/complex reports on an annual, quarterly, monthly and weekly basis. This individual also serves as the primary contact for accreditation related reports updated by the by the Student Financial Services department for the individual colleges and programs. This position has reporting responsibilities that cover both the Glendale, AZ and Downers Grove, IL campuses. This position reports to the Vice President of Finance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide support for the annual Uniform Guidance audits for both the Glendale, AZ and Downers Grove, IL campuses.

  • Administer surveys and research to include:

  • Perform the annual tuition survey study for bond reporting.

  • Prepare the annual Student Financial Services Scholarship and Financial Aid.

  • Administer the annual cost of attendance surveys and participate in cost of attendance development.

  • Monitor and track on a bi-weekly and monthly basis:

  • Federal Work-Study spend

  • Institutional loan spend

  • MWU loan originations

  • Month-end notifications and provide aging/ past due reports.

  • Serve as the point of contact for all applicable accreditation information requests, coordinate data and submit to correct program as needed.

  • Conduct the annual review of the University's Record Retention documents and ensure continued compliance.

  • Support Policy and Procedure annual review and update.

  • Support Annual Self-Assessment Process.

  • Complete data analysis on various data sets annually and as needed including:

  • Comparative program information.

  • MWU Loan application and borrower information.

  • IPEDS information.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Finance.

Other Qualifications

Analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills are required. The position interacts with a wide variety of University Faculty, Staff and Students; therefore, excellent interpersonal and communication skills are necessary in order to work cooperatively with persons at all levels in the University. A high attention to detail and the ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple priorities and deadlines is also required.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Data Science or related field is required. Must have 3-5 years of experience in finance or accounting with previous higher education experience preferred. The ability to present financial information effectively along with strong organizational skills is also required.

Computer Skills

Computer proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Significant experience with Excel is required i.e. creating spreadsheets, charts, pivot tables and utilizing lookup functions for reporting and recordkeeping. Ability to utilize R analytical software preferred.

Language Skills

Intermediate skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Reasoning Ability

High skills: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Mathematical Ability

Intermediate skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interests, commissions and proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
