Garmin Software Engineering Team Lead - AutoOEM in Chandler, Arizona

Garmin AutoOEM seeks a Team Lead to manage the embedded software team in our Chandler, Arizona office, as they develop state-of-the-art infotainment systems for BMW.

\n\n

The Team Lead will represent Garmin in meetings with BMW, create product development plans, and ensure system-related benchmarks, product requirements, and schedule compliance are met. The ideal candidate will have experience in technical or team leadership and expertise in software/hardware integration, Linux Kernel, and software testing. Essential functions of this leadership role include:

\n\n

\n\t

  • Lead the Performance Team working with client benchmarks to investige bottlenecks within Garmin's software (audio, video, camera, USB, graphics, storage, etc.), perform testing, and improve software performance

\n\t

  • Ensure the team meets development goals and project milestones are met

\n\t

  • Participate in code and design reviews, assuring proper attendees and coverage of topics, imparting lessons learned and good design practices to all who attend

\n\t

  • Set the tone for the team environment and build healthy team relationships

\n\t

  • Interview, hire and oversee training and mentoring of new associates in the arts of software engineering and project management

\n\t

  • Work with Human Resources to address employee relations issues as needed including writing and conducting annual performance evaluations

\n

Qualified candidates will possess the following:

\n\n

\n\t

  • Detailed knowledge and experience with high level language structure in C/C++ for embedded systems, focusing on software/hardware integration, HAL (hardware abstraction layer)

\n\t

  • Demonstrated skills with managing software development life cycles from requirements generation to architecture and design to delivery and maintenance

\n\t

  • Ability to effectively manage technical human resources, and to work well with others under challenging circumstances

\n\t

  • Demonstrated ability to create, champion and execute project plans on schedule

\n\t

  • Strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills to effectively support a diverse stakeholder community

\n\t

  • Ability to travel internationally as needed

\n\t

  • Bachelors or Master of Science Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, OR a minimum of ten years’ work experience performing a role substantially similar to the essential functions of this job description

Desired skills include:

\n\n

\n\t

  • 5+ years in a technical leadership position including conducting annual performance evaluations

\n\t

  • 3+ years’ experience in Linux Kernel performance optimizations

\n\t

  • 3+ years’ experience in software integration testing

\n

\n\n
